Nine members of The Mountain Company's expedition to Mera Peak summitted on November 19th 2011, like last year the group was lucky to have clear weather with good views from the top of five 8,000m peaks of Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest and Cho Oyu. The Mountain Company's Mera Peak expedition in Nepal starting October 30^th 2011 led by Roland Hunter is now guaranteed to run.

This year will be Roland’s sixth expedition to Mera Peak and he is looking forward to his sixth summit! If you are interested in joining this group trek I suggest you read our Trip Reports from our previous expeditions to Mera Peak.

Our November 2010 group summits Mera Peak!

Thirteen members of The Mountain Company's expedition to Mera Peak summitted on November 15th, we were very lucky to have clear weather with good views from the top of five 8,000m peaks of Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest and Cho Oyu. Congratulations and well done to everyone!

This is my fifth time that I have summitted Mera Peak while leading groups for The Mountain Company, each year I have been very lucky to work with the same team of Sherpas. I would like thank our sirdar Pemba Tamang (double Everest summitter plus Manaslu and Shishapangma) and his brother Nurbu Tamang as well as climbing Sherpas Ngima Dorje Tamang and Rana Magar.

Due to high demand this year for our Mera Peak expedition starting October 31st 2010 we have decided to run a second departure starting on October 17th. Our new trek will be led by regular Mountain Co leader Alan Ward, click here for information on his background and experience

There are still good price for flights to Kathmandu for these dates, I checked the cost yesterday and London - Kathmandu return was £600. I suggest that if you would like to join this group then you book flights soon as the cost will no doubt increase over the next few months.

Congratulations to the Mera Peak team who summitted on November 16th '08! We used the same itinerary as last year following the trail south of Lukla through the interesting villages of the Solu Khumbu and over the passes via the Panch Pokhari (five holy lakes) before joining the traditional Zatra La route at Kote.

This itinerary is longer than walking in via the Zatra La, however this gives everyone the opportunity to increase their fitness levels and gain better acclimatisation before attempting Mera Peak at over 6,400m. It is for this reason that The Mountain Company has one of the best summit records.

We also believe that November is the optimum time of year to climb Mera Peak, the weather is usually stable with sun and blue skies. Also there are far fewer groups tackling Mera Peak in November compared to October. This is especially important at High Camp where there is limited space.
